TikTok Removed 380,000 Videos for Hate Speech

To remove/counter the hate speech on its platform, the big giant social media “TikTok” app, on Thursday announced that since, the starting of this year 2020, they had taken down more than 380,000 videos in the US (United States) for violating its own community guidelines. The company had also banned more than 1,300 TikToker’s accounts for hateful content or wrong behavior and also removed over 64,000 comments for breaking its hate speech policy on the TikTok app.

TikTok said they are using new algorithms to make it too much difficult to find any hateful content on the TikTok platform. According to the company: “We take various actions/approaches to stop the spreading of hate content, including removing some related content, refraining from the showing results, or redirecting the search to our Community Guidelines to educate our TikTok community about our policies against hateful expression/content. It’s not a fail-safe solution, but we are work to quickly apply this approach to hate content creators as they emerge”. The changes will lead to ‘more positive, educative, and joyful content’ for all TikTok users, as the company said.

The changes will be applied when the TikTok app and its Chinese owner, ByteDance, are getting big challenges in its two largest markets – India and the US (United States).
