Xiaomi first launched Redmi AirDots in China last year. We are waiting for the company to bring these affordable TWS earbuds to India. Well, the successor to the original AirDots, Redmi AirDots S arrived in China last month. And now, Xiaomi has decided to rebrand them and launch the Redmi Earbud S in India.
Redmi Earbud S: Specs and Features
I bet you are familiar with the design of many Redmi Airdots and well, nothing has changed on this front. You still get a pebble-shaped black charging case and small earbuds that weigh just 4.1 grams. The case is close to 35 grams and closes the earbuds when not in use. The case has an LED up-front, which shows the remaining charge level.
The earbuds are equipped with a 7.2 mm driver, and a microphone for calling and ENC (environmental noise cancellation). The Redmi Earbud S also has an IPX4 water resistance rating, making earbuds and easy gym companion for many.
The Redmi Earbud S brings a major upgrade using the master-slave connection system that was used on the original AirDots. Before that, you must first tie your right earbud (master) to the phone and then the left earbud (slave) to your right. Now, both earbuds are added to the phone at the same time.
This does not mean that you cannot use the Redmi earbuds S in mono mode. You can continue using only one earbud if you need to. Pulling the second earbud from the charging case will automatically switch the earbuds to stereo audio. It also uses Bluetooth 5.0 to connect to your smartphone, which is great.
Another important feature of the Redmi Earbud S is the low-latency game mode, which was not supported by the original AirDots. This will be super handy for PUBG mobile fanatics of our country. This can be activated by triple-pressing the button on the earbuds.
Both earbuds have a touch button that you can use to play/pause music with a single tap, double-tap a voice assistant like Google Assistant or Alexa, or reject calls with long-press can do.
For battery life, Xiaomi promises up to 4 hours of continuous playback on a single charge. It can be extended up to 12 hours via a charging case, which includes a 350mAh battery. You can charge earbuds 2 to 3 times using a single.
Price and availability
The Redmi Earbud S will retail at an attractive price of Rs. 1,799 in India. It will be available in the same black color and will go on sale starting 27th May, exclusively on Amazon India and Mi.com website.
I have been using the original Redmi AirDots for over 6 months now and for the price, Xiaomi is offering you a lot. You can probably get better sound quality from a myriad of neckband-style earphones in this price category. However, Redmi Earbud S frees you from any strings and mess.
